La Cantonada: arts and crafts
6.3.2025 – 29.6.2026
The exhibition presents the four major creative periods of Vila Grau, as defined by art historian and critic Imma Julián: Architectures, Fences, Instruments for the Music of Silence and Spatial Paintings.
Alongside these, there are a few further discoveries, including one previously unseen work, which visitors will encounter throughout the exhibition.
In parallel with Joan Vila Grau’s pictorial work, one of the rooms features a selection of collaborative works by the group La Cantonada.
Comprising five professionals from the fields of art and design —Jordi Vilanova, Jordi Aguadé, Aureli Bisbe, Jordi Bonet and Joan Vila Grau himself—, the group represented an aesthetic and conceptual renewal between 1960 and 1975. Their work sought to break away from the bleakness of the Francoist post-war period and develop a body of work free from established conventions, characterised by a Mediterranean spirit and a distinct identity.
