Ceramics as a meeting point

9.5.2024 – 18.11.2024

The Casa Museu de la Plaça de l’Oli, housed in a remarkable building dating back to the 13th century, brings together more than one hundred works by ceramic and multidisciplinary artists. Curated by Valentina Asinari di San Marzano and her team, the exhibition features sculptures, panels, vessels and other forms that explore the many expressive possibilities of ceramics. Each piece reflects its creator’s vision, artistic language and sensibility, while the artists’ own testimonies offer insight into the experiences and motivations behind their work.

The exhibition is structured around three main sections. The first is devoted to families of ceramicists, featuring representatives from several generations of the Serra, Artigas, Cumella and Khuen Balasi families. Their work demonstrates how tradition and an in-depth knowledge of materials can evolve into a wide range of artistic languages. The second section brings together ceramic artists such as Jordi Aguadé, Madola, Carmen Balada and Irina Larios, whose careers have been closely linked to ceramics and who explore different types of clay, techniques, forms and sensibilities.

The third section presents multidisciplinary artists who have occasionally incorporated ceramics into their artistic practice, including Robert Llimós, Miquel Barceló, Manel Rovira and Isidre Mateo. Their works reveal the ability of clay to engage in a dialogue with other artistic disciplines and languages. Overall, the exhibition highlights the richness and versatility of ceramics, from the continuity of family traditions to the most contemporary and experimental approaches.
